O'Brien Atkins provided full landscape architecture and architectural design services for the Capital Construction Program of Employees Credit Union (SECU), which assists SECU by providing a branch office in each of North Carolina's 200 counties. SECU is one of the nation's second largest credit unions with more than $25 billion in assets.
Many projects involved two main factors: the land and the building. The site layout required careful planning for concessions, member and staff parking, multiple lanes for ATMs and cash operations, appropriate lane signage, drive-thru, protected litter and screen boards, circulation, grounds entrances. The building has functions typically associated with a financial institution, including reception, customer calls, warehouse, offices, file/records room, balance sheet, storage, engine room/electrical, living quarters, lounge and other support areas.
O'Brien Atkins' general construction services included surveying potential locations for branches; feasibility study of existing offices and their location; renovation of all or part of the existing offices; new branches - prototype office sizes 4,200 sf, 6,650 sf, 7,800 sf and 9,900 sf; spatial planning of various departments in central office premises; additions to existing offices ranging from several hundred to four thousand square feet; a complete renovation of a 100,000 SF facility acquired from a major North Carolina bank; and expansion of parking spaces and related works in the area.
